Fibrations – Carol Ingram

October 12, 2023 - November 4, 2023

ArtWalk and Artist Reception: Thursday October 12, 5-8pm

Carol Ingram, Feltmaker.

I’ve been a keen observer and a maker for as long as I can remember. At a young age, I was strongly influenced by my dad who skillfully made fur coats, and by my aunt who was an interior designer and art collector. My formal training as a painter and printmaker gave me a strong understanding of both color and design. With the drive to make, I explored many mediums and with each felt nourished and excited.

When working with fiber to make felt, I feel like I am painting with the wool. If I am making a three-dimensional piece, such as a vessel, I am a potter again. Stitching on the felt for embellishment is meditative, like mending.

This body of work is more about the excitement of the making rather than a single theme. Each piece offered surprises and challenges in the process, which came together like the single fibers that find each other to make a strong fabric.
